An interesting observation…
I have a 20 gallon aquarium in my den – it is home to 4 neon tetras 3 plastic plants and about 4000 snails that appeared out of nowhere after the purchase of aquatic plants just over a year ago.
Snails, as it turns out, are amazing little creatures – resilient beyond belief. When they first infested my tank I cleared out the fish, boiled the gravel, scrubbed the glass and flushed the plants down the toilet. Then I returned the fish to beautiful blue water and brand new poly-plant-life. The crystal clear tank perked for about three weeks before little dots started moving in the gravel. The snails were back.
Last week I received two little aquatic frogs as a gift – they have added an entirely new dimension to my fish tank. I immediately went out and purchased special aquatic frog food – little pellets that fall to the floor of the aquarium. As it turns out, snails LOVE frog food – they congregate by the tens on tiny pellets making it easy to scoop them with my net and send them swirling into oblivion down the toilet.
This morning I noticed the floor of the tank has become littered with hundreds tiny empty snail shells – it appears aquatic frogs LOVE snails! The snails have inadvertently proved without a doubt that you ARE what you eat.
